MBRN at BRAIS 2015

MBRN hosted the panel “Everyday Experiences, Multi-Focal Perspectives” at the 2015 British Association for Islamic Studies conference at Senate House, University of London.

MBRN Chair Professor Sophie Gilliat-Ray chaired the discussion, which comprised presentations from MBRN Committee Member Chris Moses (PhD student, University of Cambridge), Riyaz Timol (PhD student, University of Cardiff), Dr Anna Piela (Lecturer, Leeds Trinity University) and Dr Seán McLoughlin (Senior Lecturer, University of Leeds). The presentations engaged with a variety of topics and themes pertaining to Islam and Muslims in Britain, including media, Islamic institutions, gender, reflexivity, Sufism, Tabligh Jamaat, performance, and hajj-going, and received strong feedback.

Professor Sophie Gilliat-Ray also presented on the plenary discussion panel “Developing Islamic Studies in the UK: Future Horizons”. The following tweets from SOAS PhD student Fatima Rajina summarise her closing points.
